My American Anthology series has a new family member. I've been thinking about a new image that would flow with the others ( the stencil image in specific). After the previous pieces i made on american flags, which consiquently created the title, i realized the underlying theme of my idea.
I had several images in mind for the new stencil, all of which portrayed children either fighting or screaming. The daily news was a heavy influence on this new idea, mostly the stories about congress. (I was looking at the work of Jill Greenberg a bit at this time as well.) After several drawings, many hours of internet research amd a few trips to the library i arrived at a random photo.
I am facing a challenge now that I am introducing a character into this so called play. I am several pieces into this on-going series and feel a resposibility to play catch up with my new image. But a few of the previous pieces were based on certain materials that no longer exist. It creates a challenge that makes me excited about what will come in the next few months. I feel like the challenge will bring them to a new level.
